Biography
Zhi Wang (S'10-M'14-SM'22) is currently an associate professor and associate dean of the Institute of Data and Information at Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University. He is also the Director of the TSIGS – Shine Works InfleXion Lab (Joint Innovation Lab). He received his Ph.D. in 2014 and his B.E. in 2008, both from Tsinghua University. His research areas include distributed machine learning, multimedia networks, mobile cloud computing, and industrial foundation models with embodied intelligence. He has led NSFC Key Projects, NSFC General Projects, and major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and was selected for the National High-Level Talent Special Support Program for Young Top Talent.
He was a recipient of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (First Prize) in 2017, the National Natural Science Award (Second Prize) in 2018, the Shenzhen Youth Science and Technology Award in 2019, the Technology Invention Award of the Chinese Institute of Electronics (First Prize) in 2020, and the Natural Science Award of Beijing Science and Technology Award (Second Prize) in 2024. His research has won the Best Paper Award of ACM Multimedia 2012 (the first time a Chinese university was the lead institution to receive this award; only 1 paper receives this award among 4 candidates), the Best Paper Award of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia 2023 (the sole winner that year), the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award of China Computer Federation (Rank 3 among 10 winners, out of 37 nominees in China), the Best Student Paper Award of MMM, and the Best Paper Award of ACM Multimedia HUMA Workshop. Key technologies won 1st place in the CVPR 2024 V3Det Challenge and Best Paper Award Finalist at ACM Multimedia 2025.
He has published over 190 academic papers (142 in conference proceedings, 48 in journals), including 74 publications ranked Class A by China Computer Federation (CCF-A), and authored two English monographs as first author. His Google Scholar citations are 5905 with an H-index of 40 (as of January 2026). He is an Associate Editor of IEEE TMM and Guest Editor of ACM TIST, JCST, and Future Generation Computer Systems. His research has been covered by prestigious technology media, including MIT Technology Review and Synced Review, becoming an important reference in the field.
王智，清华大学深圳国际研究生院副教授，数据与信息研究院副院长，从事分布式机器学习、多媒体网络、工业大模型与工业具身等方向研究。主持自然科学基金重点项目、面上项目、科技部重大专项课题等，入选国家高层次人才特殊支持计划青年拔尖项目。先后获得2017年教育部自然科学奖一等奖，2018年国家自然科学二等奖，2019年深圳市青年科技奖，2020年中国电子学会技术发明一等奖，2024年北京市科学技术奖自然科学奖二等奖等。发表学术论文百余篇，第一作者出版英文专著两部，6次获得重要国际会议、期刊论文奖励，包括多媒体领域高水平会议ACM Multimedia最佳论文奖（国内高校首次第一单位获得），2022年IEEE Transactions on Multimedia唯一最佳论文奖。关键技术获得CVPR 2024 V3Det挑战赛第一名，ACM Multimedia 2025最佳论文候选等。研究成果获得工业界广泛应用和关注，被知名技术媒体MIT Technology Review、Synced Review等报道，成为业界重要参考。
